Job Summary

The Digital Medical Science Liaison (D-MSL) is a field-based non-promotional medical and scientific role with the primary responsibility of identifying Digital Opinion Leaders (DOL) and implementing/executing a comprehensive social listening strategy. DOLs are considered “go-to” experts in their practice areas by hundreds to thousands of doctors who follow the DOL on social media or interact with their content via other methods of online digital communication. The person in this position will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD) landscape including the needs, issues, and priorities as they relate to Eisai’s strategic medical plan. The individual will also have a firm understanding of social media and other methods that online influencers exploit to disseminate information. The D-MSL will be trained and certified on AD and Eisai’s dementia pipeline data in order to gather impactful medical insights to refine medical strategy and continue to close the gap on unmet educational needs for AD HCPs. The D-MSL will partner with Therapeutic and Diagnostic MSLs to share info regarding DOLs that fit standard KOL criteria, as well as assume responsibility for special internal/external projects such as traditional KOL Insight Analytics and/or Field Readiness Training. The D-MSL will also be involved in identifying unmet needs and developing/executing solutions for the national Alzheimer’s field medical teams in the use of digital tools for the purposes of KOL identification, management, meeting documentation, and insights gathering/reporting.  This could include working to improve/simplify the use of digital tools such as Salesforce CRM, insights gathering platforms, publication/field asset/document storage, in addition to the identification of novel tools to better streamline field efforts.

The impact that a DSL will have on the organization includes the following:  
  a) bring innovation to the ADBH MSL teams by incorporating social listening, social media influence, and digital tool modernization into the depth and breadth of strategic focus

b) advance medical strategy by leading monthly DOL Insight Report generation that incorporates the ability to perform targeted analyses for specific high impact topics in the moment and over time and

c) provide corporate value through demonstrated leadership, teamwork, participation in strategic thinking, and special projects

Essential Functions:


Strategic Support to ADBH Stakeholders
•    Design, implement, and execute a social listening strategy to monitor the content, reach, and impact of Alzheimer’s Disease DOLs
•    Lead the creation and dissemination of monthly KOL/DOL insight reports and deliver on requests for ad hoc analyses as needed
•    Share digital activities of DOLs who are also KOLs with their corresponding MSLs.
•    Support assigned professional congresses by monitoring and reporting on DOL activities and shared content that arise in response to data presented at professional congresses.

Training/Education Resource
•    Maintain and demonstrate thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, study methodology, clinical information, and product data
•    Demonstrate full knowledge of and ability to execute on approved medical platforms/strategies and D-MSL initiatives
•    Serve as technical/scientific subject matter resource to Eisai cross functional partners
•    Lead educational resource development for DOLs and resource storage efforts for ADBH MSL teams
•    Identify digital training needs for MSLs and develop/implement training to fulfill unmet needs
•    Assume responsibility for special projects and provide valuable contributions to the organization including leadership and strategic planning. 
•    The DSL may be involved with digital internal support or assist with DOL targeted enrollment initiatives.

Educational Requirements:
Advanced terminal D degree in medical or health sciences (e.g., MD/DO, PhD, PharmD)

Experience:
•    2-3 years MSL or D-MSL experience in neurology or complex disease states
•    A firm understanding of social media and other methods that online scientific/medical influencers exploit to disseminate information.
•    Ability to prioritize, manage, and execute projects in a fast-paced environment 
•    Demonstrated ability to successfully accomplish goals and lead without authority in a matrix environment
•    Knowledge of digital tools and omnichannel strategies commonly used in a field medical context
•    Strong broad-based scientific, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and field medical knowledge
•    Knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, pharma regulations/compliant practices, and OIG guidelines are required.
•    Knowledge and experience with insight collections, qualitative data analytics, and strategic reporting.
•    Past therapeutic area experience in Alzheimer’s Disease and/or mAbs strongly desired.

•    Demonstrated ability to anticipate, organize, plan and handle multiple priorities, while adapting to the needs of the company, disease state, and DOLs.
•    Has an ability to work independently and not require close supervision while adhering to compliance/regulatory policies, including corporate social media policies.
•    Demonstrated ability to proactively identify opportunities/challenges, willingness to communicate these challenges to leadership while working together to overcome them.
•    Seamlessly adapts to various digital situations and effectively problem solves.
•    Experience working in matrix environment including cross-functional commercial partners, with an understanding of the pharmaceutical corporate environment and appreciation for Commercial Operations, including Marketing and Sales strategies
•    Excellent computer/technology skills including applications for word processing, online research tools, working with spreadsheets, and video conferencing
•    Capable of engaging in frequent business travel (approximately 25% of time), including air travel, ability to travel overnight and occasionally on weekends.
•    This is a field-based position. The employee is required to set up a home-based office within their defined territory.
