Medical Information Specialist
Position Summary:
The Medical Information Specialist is responsible for intake, responding to, and documenting inquiries from external customers (i.e. healthcare professionals, patients, etc). The Medical Information Specialist acts as a two-way scientific information exchange resource by accurately communicating specific and balanced product and disease information, while adhering to legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Responds to unsolicited medical information (MI) inquiries from external customers received via phone, email, fax, and mail
- Ensures responses to inquiries are medically and scientifically accurate, timely, and balanced in accordance with all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines
- Conducts appropriate scientific information exchanges utilizing approved product labeling, standard response documents, published literature and other data
- Documents each interaction accurately and completely in the contact database system according to relevant procedures
- Accurately reports adverse events, and product complaints in a clear and concise manner in accordance with defined SOPs and required timelines
- Conducts follow up on product complaints on as needed basis in accordance with defined SOPs
- Identifies tracking inquiry trends and other significant issues
- Maintains current awareness of published literature, regulations and guidelines
- Participates in scientific training as appropriate to support assigned brands
- Meets or exceeds service levels and targets for internal and external customers
- Communicates and ensures integration with Medical Affairs roles and other key stakeholders
- Assist in precepting pharmacy students and Medical Affairs fellows on as needed basis
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Professional healthcare degree, nursing degree (RN/BS/BA), or PharmD required
- 0-3 years of experience in healthcare practice or FDA-regulated environment experience
- Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to understand, integrate and effectively communicate scientific/medical value of Horizon’s products to the medical community and other key internal and external audiences
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical and regulatory guidelines.
- Knowledge and understanding of compliance in commercial settings
- Demonstrated excellent project management skills and follow through
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
